2018 Holiday Gift Lift Is Under Way!
We need YOUR help! Mental Health America of Hendricks County invites you to join us in the Annual Gift Lift. Help us brighten the holidays for community members with mental illness and residents of local Long Term Care facilities by supporting the Gift Lift through donation, promotion, and/or volunteerism!
Mental Health America of Hendricks County is proud to carry on this time-honored tradition for more than 60 years. Gifts are collected, sorted, packaged in gift bags, and distributed through the help of corporate sponsors and community volunteers. In 2017 close to 1000 community residents received gifts through this program and this year we are expecting closer to 1500 to be served. We strive to reach as many of these individuals as possible with a gift this holiday season to show them that someone cares!
How YOU can help!
Collection Box Site: Set up a collection box at your place of business, church, or school! We drop off decorated boxes and suggested items lists the first week of November. People are free to shop for the box throughout the month and a volunteer will pick up the boxes the week after Thanksgiving.
Wish List Sponsor: Sponsor an individual by purchasing from their wish list.
Donate Funds for Gifts: Donations will be used to support the purchase of gifts for individuals in need.
Volunteer: Join us for our sort event where we spend a festive afternoon sorting and counting the gifts collected throughout the season! Our sorting party takes place the first Sunday in December. We also have a “wrap” party the 2nd Saturday, join us for food, fun and lots of wrapping! It’s fun for the whole family!

The Holiday Gift Lift program provides new essential items to adults who might not otherwise receive a gift over the holiday season.
Eligible recipients are:
- Residents of all participating nursing homes located within Hendricks County
- Patients of Cummins Behavioral Health Services who are deemed in need by clinical staff
- Clients in the Hendricks county home, Cypress Manor
- Clients of Mental Health America’s other supportive programs who are deemed appropriate by MHAHC staff
Donations for Gift Lift are accepted year round, although the majority of our gifts are collected in November and early December at area churches and businesses that serve as “collection sites”. In early December our volunteers sort the items and prepare them for delivery. If there is not enough of a particular item, the cash donations we receive are then used to purchase what is needed. The gifts are distributed throughout the county just before the holidays to brighten what is often a lonely time of year for the recipients.
We are always in need of additional businesses, places of worship or community groups that are willing to serve as collection sites for gifts. Its simple, you sign up as a collection site, we drop a decorated, labeled box or boxes off on a designated day and time. We recognize your location as a collection site sponsor via email and social media for a few weeks. We pick collection boxes and donated items up on a designated day and time. Gift Lift Program Needs list:
- Warm Socks
- Sugar Free candy
- Puzzle Books
- Hygiene items (Men’s and Women’s) NO RAZORS, LOOFAHS or GLASS please
- Wrapping paper
- Reusable plastic totes to be used at collection sites (30 gallon or bigger)
- Fleece (pieces that are 2 yards or bigger)
Only new, unwrapped gifts are accepted. Monetary donations are also needed. 100% of all cash donations designated for the Holiday Gift Lift program go directly toward the program.
